Reuters reports Michigan State University’s interim president John Engler said on Wednesday he would resign following renewed criticism of how he handled the fallout from the sex abuse scandal involving sports doctor Larry Nassar. Nassar, who was a team doctor for USA Gymnastics, was sentenced to up to 300 years in prison in two different trials last winter. Nassar also worked at Michigan State University. Engler said in a letter published by the university the chair of MSU’s board of trustees advised him that a majority of the panel had asked that he step down, and that he would abide by their request and resign as of Jan. 23.
